Company Profile:
Formed in 1984, the University HealthSystem Consortium ("UHC") is an alliance of 98 of the nation's leading academic medical centers ("AMCs"), and 143 associate member institutions affiliated with those academic medical centers, which represents over 90% of the nonprofit academic medical centers in the United States.
UHC provides supply chain optimization services and other products that help improve the clinical, operational and financial performance of its member AMCs. The mission of UHC is to advance knowledge, foster collaboration and promote change to help members succeed in their respective markets. As a cooperative, UHC is owned and governed by its members and operates at cost, sharing its earnings with its members based on purchasing participation.
UHC offers a full suite of integrated supply chain resources to help members make the best possible supply chain decisions and increase efficiency, including:
Contract Portfolios – UHC provides the broadest array of contracts through its Contract Solutions group, which primarily covers service agreements, and through Novation, its contracting services company, which covers commodities and pharmaceuticals needed by AMCs and their affiliated organizations, including faculty practice plans, ambulatory clinics, and other non-acute settings.
Contract Maximization – UHC capitalizes on the economies of scale generated through the aggregate purchasing power of Novation and its own suite of competitively bid contracts. UHC ensures that members have clinical input during the bid and selection process. In addition, UHC offers custom contracting, capital group buys, and regional distribution opportunities.
Physician Preference Management – To rein in escalating costs of physician preference items, UHC provides customized research, technology assessments, service line tool kits, targeted opportunity assessments, and peer-based consulting.
Emerging Technology – UHC provides strategic research and analytic services to reduce the financial risks of testing and adopting new clinical technology through its drug monographs and general and custom technology assessments.
Supply Chain Informatics – Members believe that powerful, comparative and accurate information is essential for effective supply chain management. Relevant comparative clinical, operational, financial, and supply data and analyses are provided to help members optimize their supply chain performance.
UHC is committed to the highest ethical business conduct and practices, supplier diversity, product safety, supplier accountability, and environmental standards, in addition to complying with the HGPII principles.
